Melrose Abbey

My original fibre art / textile art piece Melrose Abbey. It depicts Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders. Robert the Bruce’s heart is said to be buried at the Abbey, brought back from a crusade with the body of Lord Douglas in either 1330 or 1331.

The piece is created using wet felting, needle felting and embroidery. The background is wet felted, the Abbey is needle felted and the graves stones are made from Silk carrier rods which are a by-product of the silk making industry. While I was creating the piece I found out that my Great Great Uncle is buried at the Abbey. His name can be seen on the grave stone at the bottom right of the painting.

All my original artworks are complete one-offs, I never make the same artwork twice so you can be sure that if you are buying a piece as a gift for a loved one, a friend or treating yourself to some new art that you will be purchasing a completely one of a kind artwork.

The artwork comes in a dark frame without glass measuring 69cm x 56cm and is ready to hang.

Due to the nature of this item please do not attempt to change the frame.
